Energy Conservation Urged To Avoid Blackouts

As the North State endures a nearly week-long excessive heat warning amid red flag fire danger conditions, electricity has been stressed to its limits. On Saturday the California Independent System Operator ordered widespread rolling blackouts, affecting around 220,000 PG&E customers in central California. To avoid more blackouts, people are urged to conserve electricity, especially in the peak hours from 1pm to 10pm. Customers are asked to keep thermostats above 78 degrees, close drapes, unplug chargers and other equipment that’s not in use, and delay vacuuming, laundry, dishwashing and other high energy activities until after 10pm.
