Witnesses to a South Redding fire Monday afternoon apprehended the man believed to be responsible for it. Just after 4 O’clock Redding Firefighters were called to a field near the Good News Rescue Mission off South Market Street. They found a vegetation fire burning about a half acre and it was extinguished in about 15 minutes. Nearby some people were physically detaining a man they apparently witnessed lighting the fire. He was arrested for arson by Redding Fire Investigators, who said he appeared to be on drugs of some sort. The two southbound lanes of South Market were blocked by equipment for about an hour.
